Hands-on Winery & Culinary Experiences

The staff at Strewn would be pleased to create customized programs to suit your needs. Speak to our onsite manager about what is possible! Outlined below are some of our popular activities.

"Be a Sommelier, Be a Vintner, Be a Chef" is ideal for larger groups of 60 - 84 people and takes 2 to 3 hours. The group is divided into three teams each exploring one aspect of food and wine in a hands-on manner: 1) learn the principles of winemaking in the Strewn cellar (creating a custom red blend) and/or vineyard (pruning, shooting positioning, thinning) weather permitting, 2) learn the fundamentals of developing a wine vocabulary through a 'blind sniffing' exercise, the Aroma Wheel and a tutored tasting of different varietals, vintages and styles of wine, and 3) show off your cooking skills by preparing appetizers in the kitchen of the Wine Country Cooking School. Then it's time for everyone to get back together and enjoy the appetizers matched with fine Strewn wines. Appetizer and wine reception lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Depending on start time, the group can also participate in an optional winery tour. Cost for 60 to 84 people is $90 per person. Please inquire if you are interested in a longer program where each group does all activities.

"Strewn Boot Camp" has been created for those who want to participate in a unique, behind the scenes winery experience. Limited to 16 people (minimum 8), this hands-on one or two day program allows participants to work alongside Strewn's vineyard and cellar staff. Winemaker Joe Will provides a seminar on a career in the wine industry and leads a conducted tasting of different styles of wine. Lunch is provided each day. Cost is $200 per person for the one-day program and $350 per person for the two-day program.

"Appetizers Cooking Class & Wine Seminar" is ideal for groups of between 30 and 50 people. It starts with an optional vineyard and winery tour before the group divides into two sections. One group moves into the Wine Country Cooking School's hands-on kitchen to prepare seasonal appetizers. The other group goes into the classroom for an interactive wine seminar and a tutored tasting of different varietals, vintages and styles of wine. Then everyone gets together to enjoy the appetizers matched with fine Strewn wines in a 30-40 minute reception. Cost for cooking class, seminar and reception for up to 50 people is $4,800.

Option: groups can rotate and participate in both activities in a slightly shortened format and there will be a 20-minute reception between sessions and a second reception at the end of the rotation. Cost for both sections rotating and doing both activities is $5,800.

Dinner at Terroir La Cachette can also be arranged (main course & dessert) to follow this program. Additional cost for dinner is $40-$70 per person.

"Wine & Food Sampler" a Cooking Class, Winery Tour & Tasting. Special one-hour demonstration classes at the Wine Country Cooking School in conjunction with a tour and tasting at Strewn can be arranged for groups of up to 70 people. The group is divided into two sections - one attends a 60-minute demonstration cooking class and the other enjoys an interactive winery tour and tasting. Then the two groups switch activities (note: there is a 15 minute change-over period for a washroom break or a visit to the wine boutique) and participate in the other experience. Cost for up to 56 people is $3,800; for 57 to 70 people add $67 per person to the base price.

Niagara Wine & Food "Experience" allows us to accommodate very large groups of up to 150 people through a series of hands-on experiences at Strewn winery, the Wine Country Cooking School and Terroir La Cachette, the restaurant at Strewn.
